Falling Snag Strikes, Kills Orofino Man

      PIERCE - A young father of two was killed instantly Thursday morning when a dead snag fell on his head as he was working in the woods 16 miles northeast of here.
      Dwight Richard Allgood, 31, of Orofino, was setting choker chains on a load of logs at Cache Creek when the accident occurred.
      Allgood's employer, Royce Ebert, a logging contractor, was operating a crawler tractor at which the victim was working when the snag fell. Ebert said he saw the falling snag, but too late to warn the stooping man.
      Allgood was born Nov. 15, 1934, at Weippe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight E. Allgood. He was graduated from Weippe High School in 1952 and entered the U.S. Army in June, 1953, spending 2 1/2 years in Germany.
      After his release from the Army, in June, 1956, he worked as a log scaler and in forestry management for Polatch Forests, Inc., for eight years. He was then employed with surveying crews of the Army Corps of Engineers at Orofino on the Dworshak Dam project for three years. Following that, he was employed by Floyd Johnson, a logging contractor for the L. Cardiff mill at Pierce until a month ago when he went to work for Ebert.
      He married Elda Gleason Oct. 4, 1962, at Orofino.
      Survivors besides his widow at home include a daughter, Devanie, 4, a son Ronald, 3; his father at Weippe, and two brothers, Reynold L. of Weippe and Ernest P. of Anderson, Mo.
      The body is at Gilbert's Funeral Home, Orofino, pending arrangements.
